London has first Fairtrade and ethical boutique
 A small, but growing number, of designers have been selling their Ethical and Fairtrade clothes online, but it is also nice if we can go into a store and do the ‘touchy feely’ stuff, and also try them on. Well, if you are lucky enough to be in London, you can!
Equa is the first boutique in Central London selling Fairtrade and Organic clothing for women and children, and also accessories like handbags and earrings, and you can find the boutique in Camden Passage, Islington (you can also buy online) The collections are from designers who are committed to the values of Fair Trade, and have a passion for design & fashion.
Because Fairtrade and Ethical trade definitions can be quite complicated, each designer and also each item of clothing offers a different ethical footprint, and so each item of clothing has one or more standards or certifications which are represented by symbols that are explained so that you can understand more about the history of your purchase.
Some of the designers include People Tree, Debbi Little, Wildlife Works, Matt & Nat, Stuart + Brown (their red dress shown here) and Enamore (who had one of their dresses appear in Marie Claire - see picture above)
While some High Street stores are about high volume and 'throwaway fashion' more and more of us are loking for investment pieces, bought with love and cherised for decades. As Katherine Hamnet says "Buy a needle and cotton and SEW! We can repair investment pieces rather than send cheap quality items straight to landfill"
It really is cool to care now and women are making such a difference to the world, purely by their purchasing power. Keep it up ladies!
